Côteaux d'Aix-en-Provence

France

Description

Côteaux d'Aix-en-Provence is the second largest AOC in Provence after Côtes de Provence and lies in the west and northwestern part of the region.
Côteaux d'Aix-en-Provence is predominantly red wine country with 60% of the wine production in these parts being red, 35% roé with 5% white.

As with elsewhere in Provence, there are strict and complex rules for growing wine in this region, for the whites, 50% must be Rolle while for the reds and rosés Grenache must account for a minimum of 20%, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Counoise and Syrah should also be present.

Quintessentially Mediterranean in climate, parts of Côteaux d'Aix-en-Provence are heavily influenced by the famous Mistral wind.
