Médoc

France

Description

Located on Bordeaux's fabled Left Bank, the Médoc is home to some of the world's most sought after, and expensive wines.

The Médoc is known to produce Cabernet Sauvignon-based red blends thanks to it's warm, gravel soils. Within the area of the Médoc there are 8 red AOCs, the Médoc itself, Haut Médoc, St. Estéphe, Pauillac, St. Julien, Margaux, Moulis en Médoc and Listrac-Médoc.

Of all the 61 wines deemed worthy of the Grand Cru Classé list in the famous Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, all but one came from the Médoc region. From that same classification, the Médoc can also lay claim to 4 of the 5 Premier Crus, those being Château Latour (Pauillac), Château Lafite Rothschild (Pauillac), Château Margaux (Margaux) and, added later, Mouton Rothschild (Pauillac).
