Madeleine Angevine

Vitis Vinifera, White Grape

The Madeleine Angevine varietal wine grape

Madeleine Angevine is a cool climate grape often found in the vineyards of Northern Europe. Madeleine Angevine is known as a crossing, meaning it is a hybrid, a product of crossing two or more Vitis species, in this case Madeleine Royale and Pr├ęcoce de Malingre. It originated in France's Loire Valley but is now used heavily in Germany, England, Wales and parts of Eastern Europe along with limited use in Washington, United States.

Since its inception, Madeleine Angevine has been used to create many more varietals, it's defining characteristic of being an early ripening grape, being much sought after.
